Wowee what a hectic day! I have been trying to juggle my day job as well as organise myself with jewelry/artfire marlarky. I have a list of things to do longer than an A4 page…
I am on the hunt for a mac compatible bookeeping program. Inevitably, after posting this to my Twitter I have had numerous replies from Internet based companies wanting to steal a staggering $39 a month just to use a simple database. I am not happy with this, I merely need a new computer program, which brings me to my second key thing to do today… Funding applications, oh what joy!

I have not been doing this craft selling for long, so I am by no means an expert. However, after having been on Etsy and ArtFire for just over a month now I would like to share 10 of the key things I have learned in this steep learning curve when you first start out…

I have started many blogs in my time but after being inspired by a certain someones recent blog post about creativity and depression I am determined to keep this one going in order to stay inspired and keep making… I have recently started a new business venture alongside exhibiting my work around the UK, called Tidal Crafts Selling my art and craft work from paintings, mixed media pieces to vintage photography on the Internet (to begin with) on sites such as: Artfire
As with any business it helps to know a bit of background so here goes… I adore the British seaside, enjoy art, art criticism (if you are also interested read my recent piece about Van Gogh And His Letters at The RA) and collect anything old with a story. I am currently starting a new silver jewelry collection made from sea glass, wave tumbled ceramics and beach bricks that I pick up on one of my many Coastal walks with the dog. I am going to use this blog to give you, my readers and dedicated customers, exclusive photos and news of new stock.
Today I am waiting for Mr Postman who should be delivering more jewelry supplies – unfortunately though, it looks like I’ve been stood up for today. So instead I have found some of my favourite quotes to type on my vintage Olivetti typewriter…
“Water, water everywhere ne any drop to drink”
“Who hath desired the sea? – the sight of saltwater unbounded”
“The sea is a collector, quick to return a rapacious look”…
I will be using these quotes on mini scroll paper strips for my Message In A Bottle Pendant Necklaces, using teeny tiny bottles holding the scroll and seaside memorabilia. I will also be offering custom text messages in a bottle for that special someone in your life, so watch this space! I hope you check back in to see what Tidal Crafts will be offering shortly.

For those of you who know me it is common knowledge that I despise the over reproduced, over commercialised work of “that tea towel artist” Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890). Badly reproduced images of sunflowers, starry night skys and that infamous self-portrait on mugs, aprons, millions of notebook covers and old lady tea towels have somewhat tainted my view on his work. Therefore, when I saw the crowds of pilgrims queueing at the entrance to his works most recent UK show at The Royal Academy of Arts I almost walked away. If it wasn’t for the marvel that is internet prebooking I certainly would have but I breezed passed with my prepurchased tickets feeling rather unoptimistic. The big question in my mind was could The Royal Academy change my mind on Van Gogh? Will I review my opinion and emerge from the grand entrance a Van Gogh fan?
