My Pledge to Handmade

As many of you readers have probably noticed from my many Artfire posts, I am in the process of moving house. My studio is half packed, half unbelieveably messy and stacked full of boxes. I do however, have a small space on my desk with the essential tools for my jewelry making so all is not lost! Because of these boxes and the lack of inspiring objects, books, photos and prints in the studio I have been rather distracted recently. Tonight I have made a few new pieces (soon to be on Artfire) but after planning what will move with me and what will stay I have decided to make a promise… I vow to buy ALL of my new home items from handmade, sustainable, unique sellers ONLY! No mass produced, inferior quality products – everything recycled and most importantly of all… Everything handmade! I truely have caught the bug!

What Inspires You?

I have so many things going around in my head at the moment that I seem to be having an inspiration overload! From browsing the Etsy forums seems to me that at this wonderful time where summer is approaching and the flowers are blooming people are considering what inspires them and what they make more and more. In this sudden season change people are working on more new ideas rather than staying indoors to concentrate on those hard sales and promotions. I have had several people contact me regarding interviews about my work and my Artfire shopand they all want to know what inspires me. All I can say is I have absolutely no idea! I have no set song, film, object or thing that gives me those sudden rush of ideas.

Tidal Crafts

I have started many blogs in my time but after being inspired by a certain someones recent blog post about creativity and depression I am determined to keep this one going in order to stay inspired and keep making… I have recently started a new business venture alongside exhibiting my work around the UK, called Tidal Crafts Selling my art and craft work from paintings, mixed media pieces to vintage photography on the Internet (to begin with) on sites such as: Artfire

As with any business it helps to know a bit of background so here goes… I adore the British seaside, enjoy art, art criticism (if you are also interested read my recent piece about Van Gogh And His Letters at The RA) and collect anything old with a story. I am currently starting a new silver jewelry collection made from sea glass, wave tumbled ceramics and beach bricks that I pick up on one of my many Coastal walks with the dog. I am going to use this blog to give you, my readers and dedicated customers, exclusive photos and news of new stock.

Today I am waiting for Mr Postman who should be delivering more jewelry supplies – unfortunately though, it looks like I’ve been stood up for today. So instead I have found some of my favourite quotes to type on my vintage Olivetti typewriter…

“Water, water everywhere ne any drop to drink”

“Who hath desired the sea? – the sight of saltwater unbounded”

“The sea is a collector, quick to return a rapacious look”…

I will be using these quotes on mini scroll paper strips for my Message In A Bottle Pendant Necklaces, using teeny tiny bottles holding the scroll and seaside memorabilia. I will also be offering custom text messages in a bottle for that special someone in your life, so watch this space! I hope you check back in to see what Tidal Crafts will be offering shortly.
